The UAE and Gabon established diplomatic ties in the mid-1970s and have since collaborated on energy matters as fellow members of OPEC a fact highlighted in multiple joint communiques. Data from the UAE Ministry of Economy places non-oil trade volume between the two nations at more than 150 million dollars in 2025 reflecting steady growth from previous years. The Emirates News Agency noted that discussions also touched on sustainable development initiatives in which Gabon has engaged during UAE-hosted international forums. Such engagements form part of the UAE’s wider outreach to Central African partners.
Gabon has pursued economic diversification away from oil with support from international partners including Gulf states. An International Monetary Fund assessment found that Gabon’s reform program could deliver annual growth of around 3 percent over the medium term provided investment inflows continue.
